Harvested in the tropical climate of Mozambique's forest outskirts, near the coast, these plants thrive in both the wet (October to March) and dry (April to September) seasons, showing remarkable adaptability to extremes. The area is rich in wildlife, especially insects and birds, and is home to three main tribes: the Makhuwa, known for farming, trading, and fishing; the Makonde, celebrated for wood carving and masks; and the Tsonga people, with a culture rich in storytelling and community legends. The strain, intertwined in Tsonga legends, came from Asia in the early 1200s, possibly brought by Arab slave traders. It produces large, resinous buds with a hint of turquoise, exuding tropical fruit and spice aromas. Known as “nbanje” or “soruma,” it's used by Mozambican tribal healers in a tea-infusion for spiritual ceremonies, inducing a trance-like state for communicating with spirits.
