Pre 98 Episode 1 F4 Auto marks the first endeavor into Bubba Kush autos by Night Owl Seeds, stemming from a project initiated in 2016 with Ronin Gardens. During this period, Night Owl Seeds acquired several notable cultivars in Colorado, among them the renowned Bubba Kush clone. This particular clone is celebrated for its compact growth, dense buds, and distinctive dark, dank aroma characteristic of the Pre 98 variety.
The decision to merge the Auto Skywalker strain with the Bubba Kush clone led to the creation of unique auto-flowering plants. The first generation (F1) produced plants that predominantly exhibited Bubba traits - short, stocky, with densely resinous buds. Further breeding led to the F2 generation, where genetic variation broadened, combining the best of Bubba and Skywalker OG qualities into compact plants with dark, earthy aromas.
By the F3 generation, emphasis was placed on selecting plants with both the desired structure and effects, resulting in a phenotype with relaxing effects and a distinct minty terpene profile, albeit with weaker coffee notes. This deviation from the classic Bubba scent influenced the final naming of the strain to Pre 98 Episode 1. Despite the changes, the breeders ensured that the selected plants met all necessary criteria for quality.
Night Owl Seeds remains committed to perfecting the auto-flowering Bubba Kush variant. With the original Pre 98 Bubba Kush clone obtained again, efforts are being directed towards enhancing the strain's defining characteristics, with hopes of releasing an optimized version by 2024 or early 2025. Pre 98 Episode 1 will serve as the pollen donor for future breeding.
